Polymeric, electrically tunable diffraction grating based on artificial muscles
Low-cost, electrically tunable diffraction grating driven by a dielectric elastomer actuator capable of an angular tuning range up to 118 mrad for the first diffracted order. The achievable grating period change of 32% is an improvement by more than a factor of 150 compared with existing analog tunable diffraction gratings based on hard materials. In combination with a white light source the presented diffraction grating can be used as a wavelength-adjustable luminous source, potentially usable for inexpensive color displays.

Quantum Dot Encapsulation in Viral Capsids
Incorporation of CdSe/ZnS semiconductor quantum dots (QDs) into viral particles provides a new paradigm for the design of intracellular microscopic probes and vectors. Several strategies for the incorporation of QDs into viral capsids were explored; those functionalized with poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) can be self-assembled into viral particles with minimal release of photoreaction products and enhanced stability against prolonged irradiation.
